The Hardship Times

As the UK’s cost-of-living crisis deepens, Trussell wants to highlight the growing reliance on food banks and demand government action to fix the broken social security system. Our challenge was to create a campaign that would amplify the voices of food bank users and volunteers while capturing the attention of policymakers and the public.

Creative concept development

We reimagined advocacy through The Hardship Times, a striking newspaper-style campaign that blended storytelling and hard-hitting data to bring the realities of food insecurity into sharp focus. Each page was designed to make policymakers pause, reflect and act.

Storytelling on the ground

Over the summer, we hit the road, visiting food banks across the UK to listen and capture powerful, raw stories. From the resilience of individuals navigating hunger to the dedication of volunteers holding communities together, these voices became the heart and soul of the campaign.

Activation at Westminster

The campaign culminated in an impactful launch outside Parliament, where The Hardship Times was handed directly to MPs alongside digital ad vans circling Westminster showcasing raw, emotional interviews.

Integrated media campaign

A Westminster tube station takeover featured the faces and voices of those impacted, while celebrity supporters like Stanley Tucci, Joanna Lumley, Bill Nighy, and AJ Odudu lent their voices to call for urgent action.
